Bluegrass
A New Look
Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Sitecore Implementation Team is excited to be working on the launch of our new web site. The team kicked off the redesign process October 14 and is working on items such as: ease of navigation, availability of online resources, visual aesthetics and graphic design, and a complete representation of the extensive educational programs and opportunities available at BCTC.
The Benefits Are Endless
At BCTC, students are always our first priority. Yet, we also recognize that the college has a vast range of supporters that will utilize the web site. It is our intent that in this redesign process students, visitors, business and industry leaders, faculty and staff, patrons, and our general community members will see the site as a powerful tool and useful resource that fits their particular need.
Our new web site will be easy to update, allowing page managers (that’s You) to make updates to web pages in your area without having to learn web programming or complicated software. That means your content can always be up-to-date and changes can happen when you need them to, leading to more accurate information and more satisfied web site visitors.
And our new site will allow us to grow. Moving to our new web content management platform (Sitecore) means that our web site will be able to share content and tools with other KCTCS web sites in ways that just aren’t possible now. We’ll be able to add features that most individual colleges couldn’t develop on their own, while still maintaining our unique character and flavor. It’s the best of both worlds.
As a team, we realize that our web site is the first door into the college environment for many. We will constantly be evaluating and improving our web presence in an effort to mirror the superb quality education that can be obtained at our college.
FAQs
When is the new site coming?
Our goal is to launch the site later this fall. As we get a little closer, you'll see a lot of information about the upcoming launch.
Is everything on the current Bluegrass web site going to be moved to Sitecore at launch?
The simple answer? No. We started this process with a review of our current site--from this, we picked (or created) the top 100 pages that we felt best communicated the messages that our primary audiences--students--need to know.
Once the initial site launches, we'll be able to revisit other content and begin migrating into Sitecore. It'll take time, of course, but we'll eventually get all of our current site into Sitecore.
Will I need to change my bookmarks/favorites?
In many cases, yes. Content will be moving to different URLs (web addresses), so your bookmarks may change. We will attempt to automatically redirect as many old URLs as possible to the new ones, which should make this easier for you. Remember too that many internally-oriented pages will be moving to thePoint, so there will certainly be some changes.
With the improved navigation on our new site, plus an improved search engine and a "what's changed" page, we hope the transition will be a fairly smooth one.
Who is going to update our new site?
As we launch our new site, we will be allowing people to become content owners and authors. Content owners and authors will be responsible for updating the sections of the site where they are an expert. That means that the people who best understand the content are the people who are updating in for our sites and that means the information on our sites is more accurate.
When do I get to see the new design!?!
We're glad you're excited about the new design (we are too)! As we get closer to launch, we'll unveil some "sneak peaks" of the site's design. We know, it's no fun to wait...but we know you'll like what you see, and the wait will be worth it! :)
