Hopkinsville
Making a Better Site
The Hopkinsvile Community College Sitecore Implementation Team is excited to have kicked off the redesign process for the college web site which will conclude on launch day, November 9, 2009. With end-users in the forefront of our decisions, the team will evaluate items such as: ease of navigation, availability of online resources, visual aesthetics and graphic design, timely and valuable communication with the audiences, ease of search-ability, and the complete representation of the extensive educational programs and opportunities available at HCC.
At HCC, the students are always our first priority. Yet, we also recognize that college has a vast range of supporters that will utilize the web site. It is our intent in this redesign process, that students, visitors, business and industry leaders, faculty/staff, patrons, and our general community members will see the site as a power tool and useful resource that fits their particular need.
As a team, we realize that our web site is the first door into the college environment for many. That is why HCC will constantly be evaluating and improving our web presence in an effort to mirror the superb quality education that can be obtained at our institution.
FAQs
When is the new site coming?
Right now, are projected launch date is November 9, 2009. We're confident that we'll hit this goal, but we'll let you know as we get closer if there are any changes.
Is everything on the Hopkinsville web site going to be moved to the new platform at launch?
Not at first. We started this process with a review of our current site--from this, we picked (or created) the top 100 pages that we felt best communicated the messages that our primary audiences--students--need to know.
Once the initial site launches, we'll be able to revisit other content and begin migrating into Sitecore. It'll take time, of course, but we'll eventually get all of our current site into Sitecore.
Will I need to change my bookmarks/favorites?
There's a decent chance that you'll have to. Content will be moving to different URLs (web addresses), so your bookmarks may change. We will attempt to automatically redirect as many old URLs as possible to the new ones, which should make this easier for you. Remember too that many internally-oriented pages will be moving to thePoint, so there will certainly be some changes.
Who will update our new site?
As we launch our new site, we will be allowing people to become content owners and authors. Content owners and authors will be responsible for updating the sections of the site where they are an expert. That means that the people who best understand the content are the people who are updating in for our sites and that means the information on our sites is more accurate.
When do I get to see the new design!?!
We're glad you're excited about the new design! As we get closer to launch, we'll unveil some "sneak peaks" of the site's design. We know, it's no fun to wait...but we know you'll like what you see, and the wait will be worth it! :)
