Kentucky Community and Technical College System
About KCTCS: Strategic Planning

Bringing Our Future Into Focus

In May 1997, the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997 (House Bill 1) created the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) - the ninth institution of higher education in Kentucky. House Bill 1 brought together the technical colleges and the community colleges under one governing board. Additionally, the 2004 Kentucky General Assembly adopted House Joint Resolution 214, transferring the governance of the Lexington Community College to KCTCS.

Strategic planning is the keystone of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. The KCTCS Strategic Plan focuses fully on serving the current and future educational and training needs of the state. The KCTCS plan is built on a framework that encourages collaboration among the System's colleges as they reach out to current and prospective students, business and industry leaders, community groups, and educational entities to make higher education accessible and beneficial to the largest number of individuals possible.
