Maysville Community and Technical College to host regional grants conference

Maysville, Kentucky , March 9, 2009 - Maysville Community and Technical College will host on Friday, April 3, 2009 the first-ever Get Grants! Conference to help new and experienced grant writers sharpen their skills and increase their chances of securing external funding. The conference will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

"Organizations and local agencies throughout our region could benefit greatly from the wide variety of federal, state and private grant programs that are available," said Barb Campbell, Maysville Community and Technical College's Chief Officer of Community and Economic Development. "Yet the application process can be overwhelming and confusing. At the Get Grants! Conference, experienced grant writers and grant-making organizations will provide useful guidance for local groups."

The one-day grants conference will focus on helping organizations to be more effective in researching and writing grant applications. Speakers include:
* Barbara Fisher, Bluegrass Community Foundation
* Lloyd Schiltz, Hayswood Foundation
* Stephanie Stewart, Mason County United Way
* Jason Childers, Kentucky Office of Homeland Security
* Tanya Dickinson, Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet
* Bobby Money, Buffalo Trace Area Development District
* Darrell Abney, Cara Clarke and Jessica Kern, Maysville Community and Technical College
* Mary Forbes, Bluegrass Community and Technical College
* Terri Scale and Jamie Littleton, Kentucky Community and Technical College System

Keynote Speakers, Neil Herbkersman and Karla Hibbert-Jones, will outline a model for organizations to follow in developing the tools, techniques and strategies for planning fundable projects and writing winning proposals. Mr. Herbkersman and Ms. Hibbert-Jones developed proposals that have brought in over $117 million in grants to Sinclair Community College (Dayton, Ohio) in the past 20 years.

In addition, staff members from Senator Mitch McConnell's and Congressman Geoff Davis' offices will provide attendees with an overview of federal funding resources and tips.

The grant conference will be held on April 3, 2009, at the Maysville Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College. Registration is $50 and includes lunch. To register, or for more information, call Maysville Community and Technical College at (606) 759-7141 ext. 66120.
