ANNOUNCING AUDITIONS for the ACTC THEATRE presentation of A Little Night Music

ACTC Theatre will hold auditions for the musical A Little Night Music on Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 at 7:00PM in the J. B. Sowards Theatre.  Performance dates for the musical are April 17, 18 and April 24, 25 at 8:00PM and April 19, 26 at 2:30 in the J. B. Sowards Theatre.

One of Broadway's most neglected masterpieces, the romantic and achingly beautiful A Little Night Music deals with the universal subject of love, in all its wondrous, humorous and ironic permutations.

The story line is in turn-of-the-century Sweden, middle-aged Fredrik Egerman brings his 18-year-old bride Anne to a play starring his former mistress, Desirée Armfeldt. Soon, Fredrik and Desirée resume their romance, incurring the wrath of her current lover, a pompous Count. The situation culminates in a weekend at a country estate, with Fredrik, Anne, Desirée and the Count in attendance, as well as Fredrik's son (who is hopelessly in love with Anne), Desirée's illegitimate daughter, the Count's manic-depressive wife and the Egerman's lusty maid. And there, under the summer night, things are set to right.

The book for the musical is by Hugh Wheeler with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.  The musical is based on Ingmar Bergman's film, "Smiles of a Summer Night".  The musical score is composed entirely in 3/4 time, or in variations thereof.   A song from the musical, "Send in the Clowns" has become a popular music standard and has been recorded by dozens of superstars, including Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Judy Collins, whose recording garnered the composer Stephen Sondheim the 1975 Grammy for Song of the Year. "

The cast will include roles for approximately twenty.  There is no advance preparation required to audition.  All auditioning will be asked to sing and read.  A section of music will be taught before auditions and there will be selections of reading taken from the script.  High school, college and adults are encouraged to audition.  There has been no pre-casting.
