HCC Religion & Philosophy Club to Feature Goodman
Hopkinsville, Ky. (February 20, 2009) - The public is invited to participate in the March 25 meeting of the Hopkinsville Community College Religion & Philosophy Club. The featured guest at the noon session will be Dr. Lenn Goodman who will be addressing the subject "What's God Got to Do with It? Monotheism and Ethics."
Goodman is a philosopher with primary interests in religious philosophy and ethics. In this talk those interests intersect. His topic is the relevance of the idea of God to our ideas of right and wrong. That question is the subject matter of several of his books, including On Justice, God of Abraham, and his recent Gifford Lectures, published under the title Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself. Goodman is Professor of Philosophy and Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Vanderbilt.
He graduated from Harvard University and received a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University.
The presentation will be held at noon in the HCC Auditorium and there is no charge for admission.
