OPEN HOUSE AND RIBBON CUTTING FOR NEW CHILD CARE CENTER
WINCHESTER, KY (Feb. 4, 2009) - Bluegrass Children's Academy will host an open house and a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Winchester-Clark County campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), 2020 Rolling Hills Lane in Winchester. The public is invited.
In August 2005, an anonymous donor provided $250,000 dollars to help build an on-site child care center at the Winchester-Clark County campus. The donor "wanted to see that no one was ever denied an education because child care was a barrier," said JoEllen Reed, community specialist for BCTC.
Local residents, businesses, and community groups also donated more than $31,000 in furnishings and supplies. Donations from Sekisui S-LEC America LLC furnished the preschool room; Clark County High School Alumni donations furnished the teacher workroom; donations from Sonoco furnished the director's office; the Winchester Kiwanis Club and the Mount Sterling Kiwanis Club donated playground equipment; a donation from Winchester resident Martha Gamble furnished the day care entrance way and a donation from Reed, who donated in honor of family friend 5-year-old Holden Bishop of Winchester, furnished the infant room. Winchester businesses Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Lowes donated supplies for the day care.
Bluegrass Children's Academy is a state licensed day care facility for up to 30 children. The day care is accepting enrollment of children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Enrollment is open to students and the public.
Bluegrass Children's Academy is privately owned and operated, but has partnered with BCTC to open an on-campus child care facility.
