HCC Offers Free Quick Jobs Training
Hopkinsville, Ky. (February 4, 2009) -Hopkinsville Community College's Center for Community and Economic Development is offering ten weeks of training in the industrial maintenance field. Known as Quick Jobs, this FREE training is open to both employed and unemployed individuals. Due to an U.S. Department of Labor Community-Based Job Training grant awarded to HCC in April 2008, the training and course materials will also be provided at no cost to the participant or employer.
Industrial leaders in the HCC service area have consistently identified the lack of qualified workers in the industrial maintenance area as a serious issue. Industrial maintenance typically requires knowledge in the following skill areas: maintenance principles, mathematics, fluid power, electric circuits, and electrical controls/PLC.
Quick Jobs provides 40 hours of training in each of the above mentioned skill areas. The training will be held four hours per day for two weeks (Monday through Friday). There will be two morning sections (8:00 am to 12:00 pm) and two evening sections (4:00 pm to 8:00 pm) for each course. Each section can accommodate up to 20 students and seats are available on a first come first serve basis. Quick Jobs will begin February 23 and conclude May 1. Each training session will consist of classroom and lab instruction. Upon completion of each skill block, the participant will be issued an HCC certificate that identifies the area completed and the number of CEUs earned.
According to Dr. Randal H. Wilson, HCC Dean of Community, Workforce and Economic Development, "For more than 40 years, businesses and industries in the service area have chosen HCC for delivery of customized fast-track training for their workers. This is due in part to our reputation for quality of service, timely delivery and responsiveness. Quick Jobs will build upon this tradition."
