To accept the award is Carl Swope, President of Swope Motors, Inc.


  Carl Swope and the Swope Family of Dealerships have been long-time supporters of the automotive technology program at Elizabethtown Technical College. A representative of Swope Motors has served on the program�s advisory committee since 1989. Carl Swope has been instrumental in the donation of numerous new automobiles from Chrysler and Toyota that are used by the students to practice skills learned in the automotive technology program. Other gifts include the use of special tools and equipment needed to train the students in specialized tasks. In addition, Swope Motors supports the program by employing graduates through the co-op program. More than half of the technicians currently employed by Swope Motors were trained at Elizabethtown Technical College.

   First Citizens Bank has invested in North Central Education Foundation�s general scholarship fund since its beginning in the 1970s. First Citizens Bank also made a significant investment for scholarships during the Partners In Progress Campaign for ECC. Lloyd C. Hillard, Jr., Bank President and CEO, believes an investment in education pays dividends to everyone in a community. Individual growth and community building are at the heart of First Citizens Bank�s mission and vision. Lloyd is a former Chairman of North Central Education Foundation and currently serves as Chair of the Board Management Committee


John Behen, Elizabethtown

  John P. Behen has been involved with Elizabethtown Community College since 1956, when a local college was still a dream of community leaders. He was a member of a group of concerned citizens who founded North Central Education Foundation, which raised the funds for the land on which the community college was built. John served as the Foundation�s secretary-treasurer until 1992 and established a scholarship program with the funds remaining after the purchase of the land for the college. He wrote the first check in support of the scholarship fund. John was instrumental in establishing programs to assist faculty members with loans and advances for professional development, and emergency funds for students. He was appointed executive vice-president of NCEF after serving as secretary-treasurer and continues to serve on the Foundation Board.
